We strongly encourage all our Catrina contestants to be unique and authentic in their overall design as these are the key components they will be judged on.
- Attire is in line with the overall theme of Dia de los Muertos
- Overall creativity (this may include, but is not limited to, the use of jewelry, feathers, props and other materials other than face paint)
- No masks (Must have face painted)
- No Street clothes or halloween costume attire
- Your own Catrina dress design encouraged but not required. You may use quinceanera or formal dresses.
Participants must be 14+. A minimum of 10 participants is required for the event to take place.
As the winner, you may be asked to represent Moravida Festival in upcoming advertisements (promotional videos/posters).
Judging Criteria
Contestants will be evaluated on the following areas:
Authenticity & Cultural Reverence
How well the overall presentation honors the traditional Catrina or Catrín concept and the spirit of Día de los Muertos. Judges will consider the contestant's understanding and respectful representation of the culture and traditions associated with the holiday.
Creativity & Originality
Judges will look for unique interpretations, artistic vision, and personal touches that make each design stand out while remaining true to the theme.
Face Paint & Makeup
Face paint is required. Judges will evaluate the quality, detail, craftsmanship, and creativity of the makeup design and how it complements the overall presentation. Masks are not permitted.
Attire & Craftsmanship
Contestants will be judged on the overall appearance of their attire, including clothing, accessories, props, and design elements. Judges will consider the quality, creativity, and attention to detail of the overall look. Street clothes and Halloween costumes are not permitted.
Overall Impression
This category reflects the contestant's complete presentation, including confidence, stage presence, poise, and the overall impact of their portrayal.
We strongly encourage contestants to be creative, authentic, and original in their interpretation of La Catrina or El Catrín. Handcrafted elements, unique accessories, and thoughtful details are always encouraged.
