FFA Video Project Guidelines

Deadline for 2024 Submissions: July 26, 2024, 5 pm

Goal: To show Fair attendees, legislators, sponsors, the general public, what it takes to raise an animal project for Fair.

Who can participate: For 2024 it is open to all Grant County FFA animal exhibitors.

Project Description: Provide a two-minute video by combining short video clips of you raising your animal project. Suggestions would be feeding, grooming, training, frustrations, joyous interactions, etc.

Guidelines: 2 minutes in length give or take 10-15 secondsMP4, MPEG or AVI formats accepted. Video must show animal as well as Exhibitor when possible. Submissions must be dropped off at the Fair office on a thumb drive. Thumb drive must be labeled with Exhibitors name, email and phone.

Judging: First round done by Fair staff and Fair Advisory Committee. Top 7 will be submitted to the Livestock Committee for final judging.

Awards: First place - $1,000. Second Place - $650. Third Place - $350

Judging criteria:
  • Clearness of video
  • Number of various situations
  • Clear audio
  • Clearness of illustration of work involved
  • Length near guidelines of 2 minutes

YQCA Deadline

All 4-H, FFA, and Grange members exhibiting an animal that will sell through the Grant County Livestock Sale are required to be certified in Youth for the Quality Care of Livestock, YQCA, by July 1, 2024. 4-H, FFA, and Grange exhibitors not currently certified in YQCA will not be eligible to sell through the Livestock Market Sale. Please complete your certification BEFORE registering your animal for the Fair. You will be required to enter your certificate # when you register your animal.

This includes the following species market beef steer, bred & springer dairy heifers, market pigs, market lamb, market goat, poultry and/or rabbits).

4-H Entry Deadlines

ALL 4-H Static entries must be pre-registered online by Wednesday, July 10th. We will no longer have in-person registration for these Divisions.

4-H Member and Project Enrollment Deadline May 1, 2024 (for participation in Grant County Fair)

Entries for Educational Posters, Record Books, and Photography must be dropped off at the WSU Extension office by Friday, July 26th at 5 pm.

Grange Educational Posters & Record Books

All exhibitors must register for and display an educational poster in order to be eligible to sell their animal at auction. Online registration due- July 10th

Educational Poster Rules:
1. All exhibitors shall enter an Educational Poster. Exhibitors shall enter one poster per class/project.
2. Name, age (as of Jan 1), and home Grange of the exhibitor shall be written on the back of the poster
3. Posters shall focus on a topic related to a youth member’s project. The topic of choice shall educate the reader/viewer.
4. Posters must be readable from 10 ft away. Select lettering/type that is simple, clear and well spaced. Choose typefaces that are easy to read if using a computer. Be consistent in style, use a ruler to ensure letter size consistency. Posters need to be easy to read, consider line thickness as well as letter size.
5. Poster’s will be judged and displayed in the appropriate barn or display area.
6. The poster must be completed by the exhibitor within the current year. Posters must entirely be the work of the exhibitor.
7. Sizing: Minimum of 14”x22”, Maximum of 22”x28”
8. Educational posters will be judged on the following criteria: color, lettering, illustration, layout, originality and creativity, educational value, age and experience appropriateness
9. Educational Posters are due to the Grange Youth Fairs County Coordinator no later than August 1st.

Record Books Rules:
1. All exhibitors shall enter a Project Record Book.
2. Name, age (as of Jan 1), and home Grange of the exhibitor shall be written on the cover, or first page of the Record Book.
3. Pages shall be 8.5”x11”. Handwritten or typed is acceptable.
4. Cover shall be Red Pressboard Acco Fastened Folder, Red Two-prong folder bound on the left side or a red binder.
5. Dividers or Tabs shall be used to delineate the different sections.
6. Sections of the record book shall, at a minimum include: Project Plans/Commitment (including financial summary), Calendar/Participation Log, Project Journal/Summary/Highlights, Project Pictures, Permanent Record, and Exhibitor’s Grange/Project Story.
7. Record books are due to the Grange Youth Leader and/or County Coordinator no later than August 1st.



FFA Educational Posters

All exhibitors must register for and display an educational poster in order to be eligible to sell their animal at auction.

Online registration due- July 10th

Exhibitors must hang their educational posters above their pen for display by Monday, August 12th.

May 1, 2024 - Non-sale Dairy Animal Certificates Due
May 12, 2024 - Llama Ownership due date
June 15, 2024 - Rabbit Ownership due date
June 24, 2024 - Poultry Certificates due to Extension Office, hatch dates vary by species, make sure to reach out to the superintendent or WSU Extension.

Ear tags for all animals will be available at:

All species must be tagged BEFORE registering your animal for the Fair. You will be required to enter your animals # when you register on FairEntry.

Market Swine Tags

If you are showing a market swine project at the Grant County Fair, your animal must be tagged.

Tag photos are due to the extension office by the end of the day on May 18th. Please email photos to ana.myers@wsu.edu

Goat Tagging

All market goats need to have a scrapie tag regardless of their sex.

Please have your goat tagged BEFORE registering your animal for the Fair. You will be required to enter your scrapie tag # when you register your animal. Click here for more information on getting your goats tagged.

Market Beef Weigh & Tag Day

If you are showing a market beef project at the Grant County Fair, please bring your animal to be tagged and weighed.

Date: Saturday, April 20th 1-3 PM at the Fairgrounds

Market Lamb & Goat

If you are showing a market lamb or goat project at the Grant County Fair, your animal must be tagged.

Poultry Tagging & Testing

MARKET POULTRY CERTIFICATE

*hatch dates vary by species, make sure to reach out to the superintendent or WSU Extension.

- June 24, 2024, PRELIMINARY Market Poultry Certificate COPIES Due

- 1 certificate per bird being grown in the Market project flock.

- Retain the original certificates to be completed as the project progresses.

- August 12, 2024, FINAL Market Poultry Certificate Due for the one bird selected for the Market Class exhibition.

- Preliminary Certificate Submission, by 6/24/2024

At Fair barn check-in submit the completed market certificate with the one market bird selected for exhibition.

POULTRY TAGGING

All birds entering the Fair must be tagged.

- PT Test Tagging: Birds that require PT are tested and will be banded at that time with a testing band.

- Fair Tagging: ALL Birds exhibiting at the Grant County Fair will be tagged with their respective Fair ID bands on Monday Move-In Day when they check-in.

POULTRY TESTING

Birds requiring Pullorum-Typhoid Testing must be tested and receive a negative test result within 90 days of Fair.

WHICH BIRDS GET TESTED?

- Non-Market birds 16wks or older on 7/27/24…Birds hatched on it before March 4th ONLY.

- Birds hatched after April 6th, 2024 will be too young to test on 7/28.

- Birds hatched after April 7th that will be 16 weeks old by 8/12 may not be able to be tested and get results back in time to attend the Fair.

*Non-market birds exhibiting at the Fair that require PT testing must be 16 weeks old and have a negative PT test to exhibit at the Fair.

EXEMPT BIRDS:

Waterfowl, doves, pigeons, *market chickens, and *market turkeys.
*Market chickens and turkeys are exempt from testing, they are under 16 weeks of age at the start of the fair, and are terminal.

COST

$25 per bird. Grant County Fair is covering the price of one bird per exhibitor the exhibitor will be responsible for covering the cost of additional birds.


NOTES
- Dirty birds will be turned away, it is unhygienic to draw blood on a dirty animal.

- Birds not in appropriate cages with bedding, ie pine shavings, will be sent home.

Rabbit Tattooing

All rabbits entering the Fair must be tattooed for proper identification.

Date: Saturday, June 15th

Time: 4 - 6pm

Location: Rabbit Barn

Cost: $2 per Rabbit
to help cover the cost of tattooing supplies.

Please have your rabbit tattooed BEFORE registering for the Fair. You will be required to enter your tattoo # when you register your animal.
